"Feed My Sheep"

What is it that Jesus meant when He said those words, Feed my sheep?" I taught on Wednesday night on those who we were. In Genesis 2:7, the Lord God formed man of the dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and man became a living soul. The dust of the earth, formed by God and breathed into by Him brought the God kind of life into the newly formed man. He became a breathing, living, thinking, reasoning creature. He was Spirit, possessed a soul and (for now) had a physical body. The outer self (body) related to the physical world with the five senses. The inner self related to the spiritual realm and God. His inner man at first was very sensitive the spiritual realm and with God. We see that he had easy communication with God the Father. But when sin came into him he became much more aware of the outer realm and less with the inner realm, "We are naked"! We all have a habit of feeding our outer man each day and every day without even thinking about it. We walk by the refrigerator and open it, grab something out of it and gobble it down. Our lower nature (the physical one) knows how to care for itself. But we have a "higher" nature. The one that was "born again" when we received Jesus as our Lord and Savior!  That part of us needs food also. Because he is spirit (as God is Spirit) he needs spiritual food!  In John 21:15-17 Jesus asked Peter three times that if he (Peter) loved him he would feed His sheep. Jesus was talking about spiritual food. The word of God.  Those who love God read the Word, get built up spiritually (the Spirit man, higher nature) and then they in turn would feed the lambs and sheep of Jesus! In Acts 20:32, "And now bretheren, I commend you to God and to the Word of His Grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them who are sanctified.  When we feed our spirit man with the Word of God we are built up spiritually. We have to be mature to receive our inheritance. Our focus needs to be more on the spiritual man than the outer. Where is your focus?

"Why We Come to Church! "

I was teaching out of Ecclesiastes 5:1 last Sunday where the beginning scripture tells us to "Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God. What this is telling us is to watch our self when we go to Church. And to be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools; for they consider not that they do evil.  Pride and foolishness go hand in hand. Well then, how should we come to Church? The Lord gave me 7 things to come to Church for:

1.  COME TO WORSHIP.... Psm 29:2 Give unto the Lord the glory His name worship the Lord in the beauty of Holiness.

2.  COME TO GIVE..... Psm 18:49  Give thanks with a grateful heart. Give God His tithes and His offering, they are Holy unto the Lord.

3.  COME TO CELEBRATE..... Psm 122:7  I was glad when they said unto me, let us go unto the house of the Lord. To be a true Believer coming to Church is a time of joy. Remember Communion is a celebration.  We aren't mourning His death we are celebrating His ressurection.

4.  COME TO LEARN.... Psm 119:11  Thy word O' God have I hid in my heart that I would not sin against thee.

5.  COME TO LOVE.... In the upper room Jesus gave his disciples a new commandment. To love each other as He loved them. The God kind of love. We see this again in 1John 4:7-8

6.  COME TO HONOR.... Psm 26:8 Lord I have loved the habitation of thy house and the place where thine honour dwelleth. Honor God, honor each other.

7.  COME TO TAKE HOME... what you have learned to apply to your life. What was taught in the Synagogues was taught and practiced at home.  Where is your focus?
